SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz picked up a convincing 120-100 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The game was the team’s first since the organization went under fire for an incident between a Jazz fan and Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook on Monday. Punishments for both Westbrook the fan were meted out afterwards but Jazz owner Gail Miller still addressed the crowd prior to the game against Minnesota and pled with the fans for increased accountability and civility in the arena.

Once the game got started, the Jazz put on a dominant performance after picking up a win in Phoenix the night before. The Timberwolves pulled within one in the third quarter, but Utah came alive and picked it up in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.

Gathering a lead as big as 24, Utah had six players finish in double-figure scoring.

Donovan Mitchell led the team with 24 points.

Derrick Favors continued his streak of strong play with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double. His frontcourt mate, Rudy Gobert, also had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Jae Crowder also played well off the bench with 18 points and helped the Jazz outscore the Timberwolves by 22 when he was on the court.

Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns turned in a game-high 26 points in a losing effort.

The Jazz’s strong play was highlighted by some terrific above-the-rim action by Joe Ingles.

Perhaps not wanting to be outdone by Ingles, Mitchell, who won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2018, thrilled the home crowd with a powerful baseline flush.

After recently returning from an injury that forced him to miss 25 games, Dante Exum left the game after just three minutes of action due to right knee soreness.

Next Up

The Jazz will remain at home and host the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet.
