LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies defeated the Colorado State Rams 100-96 in overtime in their regular season finale. With the win, the Aggies have clinched a share of the Mountain West Conference regular season title.

Utah State finished their regular season schedule with a 25-6 overall record and 15-3 mark in conference play. It’s the first time since joining the Mountain West Conference in 2013 that they have won the conference title.

When the media voted in the preseason on where the teams would finish at the end of the season, Utah State was predicted to finish in ninth place in the conference.

Outright Title Still Possible

Utah State still has a chance to win the outright conference regular season championship. They would need Nevada to lose one of their last two games against either Air Force or San Diego State. If that happens, Utah State will be the No. 1 seed in the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas.

If Nevada wins their last two games, Utah State will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament.

The last time the Aggies won their conference was during the 2010-11 season when Stew Morrill was the head coach. Utah State finished as conference tournament champions as well with a 30-3 record. They lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Big Wins Lead To At-Large Bid

It is almost cemented that the Aggies will get an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. They ended their regular season on a seven game winning streak and 14 of their last 15. They have resume wins over Nevada, San Diego State and Fresno State. The Aggies had close losses to Houston on the road and Arizona State in a tournament in Las Vegas, both teams are likely going to make the tournament.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Utah State as an 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament, facing No. 6-seed Villanova in the first round at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City. The last time that the Aggies appeared in the Big Dance was the last time that they won the conference regular season and tournament titles in 2010-11.
