Mitchell Turns In Career-Best Performance In Win Over Bucks

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Don’t look now, rest of the NBA, but Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz are coming.

The second-year guard scored a career high 46 points to lead the Jazz to a huge 115-111 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

The game pitted the Jazz against the top team in the Eastern Conference which boasts one of the best young players in the game in Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Yet in the end it was “Spida” who got the edge over the “Greek Freak.”

Early on, Antetokounmpo showed why he has been considered an MVP candidate all season. He and fellow All-Star Chris Middleton combined for all of Milwaukee’s points to build a 20-6 lead on Utah early in the second.

From there, however it was Mitchell’s night to shine as he willed his team back into the game.

MORE FROM JAZZ vs. BUCKS

To start his big night, Mitchell ended up outscoring Antetokounmpo in the first, netting 11 points in the opening period.

As the Jazz continued to takeover the game, Mitchell continued to pace the his team.

Other Jazzmen shined, like Derrick Favors, who turned in a 23-point, 18-rebound double double, highlighted by a huge dunk over Milwaukee’s Ersan Ilyasova.

Joe Ingles was also brilliant, scoring 14 points, including some big baskets late in the game to keep Utah in front as Milwaukee threatened.

Yet, when the Jazz needed a big basket the most, Mitchell answered the call. After Middleton drained a floater to cut Utah’s lead to one with less than two minutes remaining, Mitchell responded with a deep 3-pointer.

A few seconds later, after a basket by Ingles, Antetokounmpo scored to cut the lead to three. Mitchell again responded with another huge 3-pointer, this one from even deeper to increase Utah’s lead to six.

Milwaukee kept the pressure on and forced Mitchell to shoot free throws to ice the game with eight seconds remaining.

He drained them both.

It was the stuff legends are made of.

Naturally, once the game was over, Mitchell’s teammates doused him in water, cooling off the hottest player in the NBA.

Mitchell finished with 46 points and five 3-pointers made, including the two huge triples late in the game. 19 of his 46 points came in the fourth quarter.

Antetokounmpo finished with 43 points, 14 rebounds and the loss.

Advantage, Mitchell.
