6A Semifinals Recap: Pleasant Grove To Meet American Fork In Finals

OGDEN, Utah – The 6A boys basketball semifinal round has four of the best teams in the state of Utah fighting for a chance to play for a state championship.
As it turns out, Pleasant Grove, led by future Utah Ute Matt Van Komen, will face American Fork for the championship.
Here’s a roundup of the action in the semifinals:
Pleasant Grove 72 – Fremont 55
Fremont held a 13-11 advantage after the first quarter before Pleasant Grove answered with a 19-12 second quarter to lead by five at halftime. The Vikings outscored the Silverwolves 42-30 in the second half to take over the game and clinch a spot in the state championship.
Utah Utes commit Matt Van Komen poured in a playoff career-high 25 points to go with his 11 rebounds.

Casey Brown added 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Kawika Akina had 11 points for Pleasant Grove.
For Fremont, Dallin Hall dropped 15 points and 5 assists, Baylor Harrop chipped in 14 points.
UP NEXT: Pleasant Grove will face American Fork in the 6A State Championship on Saturday at 5 p.m.
American Fork 82, Davis 80 (3OT)
American Fork had a great start to the game on a 8-0 run but the Darts didn’t fold as they countered with a 17-9 run to tie the game at 17 in the second quarter. The Cavemen had a 32-31 lead at halftime.
From there, things got wild. The Cavemen went cold in the third but heated up in the fourth quarter to the game up at 61-all at the end of regulation.
One overtime wasn’t enough to declare a winner, and neither was another overtime period. Finally, the Cavemen edged Davis by outscoring the Darts 7-5 in the decisive third overtime period.

Hayden Franson had 28 points with 11 rebounds to lead American Fork.
Tyson Garff dropped a team-high 20 points for Davis.
