Childs, Haws Lead Cougars Past Portland

PORTLAND, Oreg. – The BYU Cougars handily defeated the Portland Pilots 83-48.
The Cougars previously defeated the Pilots 79-56 at home on Jan. 10. Yoeli Childs was dominant in that game, scoring 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He also completed the double-double with 12 rebounds.
With the win, the Cougars advanced to 15-10 overall and 7-3 in West Coast Conference play.
The Dynamic Duo Leads The Way
This time, Childs and TJ Haws were hot out the gates for the Cougars, combining for 22 of BYU’s 40 first half points.
Childs nearly had a double-double by the halftime break with 10 points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes of action.
The Cougars held the Pilots without a basket for the final three minutes of the first half en route to taking a 40-21 lead at the break.

The second half didn’t get much better for the Pilots. The Cougars opened the first half of the second period on an 18-6 run to take a commanding 31-point lead at the 12:29 mark.
BYU expanded its lead to 37 points in the final five minutes before the buzzer ended with the Cougars up by 35.

Marcus Shaver Jr. led the Pilots with 9 points.
