No. 14 Utes Fall To No. 9 Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Oreg. – The No. 14-ranked Utah Utes played a tough game in a top 15 matchup but fell 71-63 to No. 9 Oregon State.
The loss moved Utah to 7-3 in conference play and 18-3 overall.

Utes Fight Hard, Come Up Short
Utah came out firing on all cylinders to start the game, roaring to an 11-2 lead early in the first period. At the end of the period the Utes held Oregon State to single digit scoring in the first quarter with a 13-8 advantage. It was the first quarter in single digits for the No. 9-ranked Beavers this season.
The Beavers got the Utes and tied the game at 28-all at the halftime break thanks to a monster output by their best player, Destiny Slocum. She scored 18 points in the first half, including 16 in the second quarter to tie the game up for the Beavers.
Oregon State took the lead in the third, but the Utes went on a 7-0 run to take a three point lead with five minutes remaining in the quarter. Slocum and the Beavers responded by tying the game up and the quarter ended with both trading baskets. Going into the fourth, the score was tied at 51-all.

The Utes went cold when it mattered the most, going over five minutes without a made field goal while Oregon State went on a 11-1 run to take a 64-57 lead with a little less than four minutes remaining.
Finally, Kiana Moore drained a 3-pointer with 2:34 to end the drought and bring the score to 67-61
In the end, the Utes tried to play the foul game with the Beavers but Oregon State made its free throws and prevented Utah from retaking the lead.
Megan Huff led the Utes with a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double.
Next Up
After a grueling portion of their schedule, the Utes will return home to host USC on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
