PROVO, Utah – The BYU Women’s Basketball Team is on fire after they beat San Diego 65-56 for their 11th straight win.

The win improved their record to 17-3 overall and 9-0 in West Coast Conference play. They have some impressive wins to their resume, including a victory over Gonazaga, who was ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll back on January 17.

BYU’s last loss was to the University of Utah on December 8 at the Huntsman Center, losing by 11 points. Their other two losses came to Southern Utah in disappointing fashion and Cal. They have already surpassed last year’s win total when they finished the 2017-18 season with a 16-14 record.

Since the 2015-16 campaign, BYU has recorded 20 wins or more twice, including a 26-7 record in the 2015-16.

The Cougars are led by freshman guard Shaylee Gonzales with 17.3 points per game. Sophomore guard Paisley Johnson is having a great season as well with 14.1 points per game.

As a team, BYU is averaging 67.8 points per game while holding their opponents to just 61.2 points per game. They are very good in the second and fourth quarters, outscoring their opponents 347-271 in the second quarter and 355-298 in the fourth quarter.

Currently, the Cougars are receiving the most votes outside of AP Top 25 Poll. If they keep rolling, they will be ranked in the next week or two.

The first place Cougars will travel to Loyola Marymount on Thursday at 6 p.m. on TheW.tv. The Lions are 11-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play. BYU beat LMU in the first meeting this season at home 55-44 on January 5.

Then they will travel to Pepperdine on Saturday at 3 p.m. on TheW.tv, the Waves are 11-8 overall and 5-4 in WCC action. The Cougars beat the Waves 83-58 at home this season on January 3.
