SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The New Orleans Saints lost in a controversial fashion to the Los Angeles Rams while the New England Patriots put an end to the Kansas City Chief’s run.

That pits former local stars Kyle Van Noy and the Patriots against JoJo Natson and the Rams in Super Bowl LIII, which will kick off on Sunday, Feb. 3.

Former Utes Dominique Hatfield of the Rams and Eric Rowe of the Patriots were both out with injuries and are unlikely to play on the game’s biggest stage.

All and all, five former college stars from the Beehive State competed on Sunday for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. Here’s how they did:

Former Utes

Former Aggies

JoJo Natson, Rams

The former Utah State speedster had a kickoff return for 17 yards and a punt return for the victorious Rams.

Former Cougars

Taysom Hill, Saints

Although the Saints lost in overtime, the former BYU quarterback turned plenty of heads with his performance. He hauled in a 2-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees in the third quarter to put the Saints up 19-10.

He also had an incomplete passing attempt and a rushing attempt for zero yards in the loss.

Daniel Sorensen, Chiefs

In the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship game, Sorensen made huge tackle on fourth down to prevent a first down for the Patriots. At that point, the Chiefs were trailing 17-14.

Later in the fourth quarter, Sorensen came up with a huge interception on Tom Brady to set up a score by Kansas City to take the lead with 7:45 remaining in the game.

Unfortunately, Brady did Brady things and led the Patriots to the victory with touchdown in overtime.

Kyle Van Noy, Patriots

Van Noy had a string sack at the end of the first half on Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The play went for a loss of 10 yards after it was recovered by Mahomes.

The former BYU linebacker led the Patriots with 10 tackles, of which eight were solo with two sacks in the win.

NEXT UP: Super Bowl LIII, vs. Los Angeles, Sunday, Feb. 3 at 4:30 on CBS.
