BYU’s Yoeli Childs Named To Lute Olson Award Watch List

PROVO, Utah – BYU junior forward Yoeli Childs was named to the 2018-19 Lute Olson Award mid-season Watch List which is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I player in college basketball.

In his 17 games played and started this season, Childs is averaging 21.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, which leads the team. He is shooting 54.2 percent from the field to go with 10 double-doubles. Childs has scored in double figures in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season.

He had a stretch of three straight 31-point games, the first Cougar to achieve that since Jimmer Fredette.

Childs is tied for third in the nation in double-doubles, tied for 15th in rebounding and 21st in scoring. Among the BYU greats, he is No. 24 in career scoring, 16 in rebounding and fifth in blocks.

Other BYU players to be named to the Award Watch List is Jimmer Fredette in 2010 and 2011, as well as Kyle Collinsworth in 2015.

The award is named after legendary Arizona coach Lute Olson who won 780 games in his 34 years as a coach, 24 in Arizona. He won 11 Pac-10 Conference titels, 23 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.

The 2019 Lute Olson Award will be presented in April in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the site of the Final Four.
