RENO, Nev. – The Utah State Aggies’ Mountain West Conference opener did not go their way in a 72-49 loss to the Nevada Wolf Pack.

The undefeated Wolf Pack of course, were heavily favored being the No. 6-ranked team in the country and showed their strength in the win.

Nevada Pulls Away For Big Win

Utah State hung with Nevada for the first eight minutes or so, trailing just 12-10 before the Wolf Pack went on a 23-15 run to end the first half.

In the second half, Nevada was in cruise control, leading by 20 most of the half en route to a 23-point victory.

The Aggies shot a woeful 26.2 percent in the game, compared to 39.3 percent by Nevada.

Utah State also only converted on 4-of-23 shots from downtown while the Wolf Pack drained 7-of-29.

Sam Merrill led the Aggies with 16 points. Brock Miller was the only other Aggie in double-figure scoring with 10 points.

Nevada’s Jordan Caroline was too much for Utah State to handle inside the paint. He finished with a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double to led the Wolf Pack. Cody Martin and Tre’Shawn Thurman each had 14 points while Jazz Johnson chipped in 10 points.
