OGDEN, Utah – Weber State was able to hold off the Delaware State Hornets with an 83-69 win to finish non-conference play. They had 19 free-throw attempts in the second half.

Jerrick Harding led the way for the Wildcats with a season-high 36 points on 9-of-17 from the field and a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line.

Cody John added 10 points and 6 rebounds, while Brekkott Chapman notched his third straight double-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks.

The Wildcats finished the game hitting 23-of-27 at the free throw line with 17-of-19 coming in the second half.

Kevin Larkin led the Hornets with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Pinky Wiley added 14 points and 6 assists.

Slow Start Leads To Big Run For WSU

The first 11 minutes of the first half was tightly contested with Delaware State gaining their largest lead of five with 9:39 left and then pushed it to 22-17 with 8:19 left.

That was when the Wildcats would change the game and swing the momentum their way, ending the first half on a 23-6 run to lead 40-28 at halftime.

Harding had a great first half with 15 points, including 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-5 from downtown.

John and Chapman added six points apiece and the WSU shot 48 percent from the field and out-rebounded Delaware State 24-14.

Weber State Hangs On To Win

The Wildcats broke the game open early in the second half with an 11-1 run over a 3 minute span that stretched their lead to 55-34.

Delaware State went on a 10-2 run over a four minute stretch to cut the lead to 62-50 with 9:21 left.

Both teams went cold shooting the basketball, but when WSU stayed cold missing five of their next six attempts, the Hornets made three of their next four to trim the lead to 72-61 with 4:05 left.

Weber State was still cold from the field but were able to knock down free-throws as they made 12 in a row at the charity stripe to hold an 81-65 lead with 1:32 left.

With 33 seconds left in the game, Zach Braxton put the game away with a dunk and the Wildcats escaped with a win.
