Haws Leads BYU To Big Win Over Portland State

PROVO, Utah – Led by a career night by TJ Haws, the BYU Cougars rolled past Portland State 85-66.
On a night where star center Yoeli Childs wasn’t at 100 percent, Haws picked up the slack as he led the Cougars to the 19-point victory. He finished with a career-high 30 points on 9-of-15 shooting with five 3-pointers made.

“It was a different game tonight, they pressed all night and as we broke the press we were very unselfish and made the extra pass. Guys had open looks all night and guys found me and I knocked down a few shots,” said Haws after the game.
Cougars Go On Big Run
The Vikings kept it close in the first 10 minutes with the score at 22-21 at the 9:39 mark. BYU then turned it up and reeled off a 16-0 run to put some serious distance between itself and Portland State. It was never close again as the Cougars rolled to the win.

By The Numbers
Despite reportedly feeling ill, Childs still chipped in 13 points in the win. Zac Seljaas and Connor Harding each added 11 points each.
Portland State was led by Derek Brown with 14 points.
For the game, the Cougars shot a solid 47.5 percent from the field while holding Portland State to just 31.3 percent on the floor.
The Vikings however dominated the glass, outrebounding BYU 56 to 32.
Next Up
BYU will next head to Las Vegas to take on UNLV at T-Mobile Arena on December 15th. The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN3.
