Yoeli Childs Named WCC, NCAA March Madness Player Of The Week

PROVO, Utah – The West Coast Conference announced that BYU forward Yoeli Childs has been named Player of the Week. Childs was also named NCAA March Madness’ National Player of the Week.
The junior led the Cougars to two wins against in-state opponents while scoring 31 points in each contest. He finished the week averaging 31 points, 9 rebounds and 2.5 steals in those two games.
He also scored 31 points in their loss to Weber State in the previous week and is the first BYU player to score 30 points or more in three straight games since Jimmer Fredette.

Against Utah State
Childs hit 11-of-18 from the field including a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line to score 31 points and added seven rebounds, one block and a career-high five steals. He was a big part of the first half success against the Aggies in Provo when he scored 14 points in the first half and BYU had a 53-34 lead at the half.
He added 17 points in the second half and helped the Cougars withstand Utah State’s rally to pick up a 95-80 win.

Big Win Over Rival Utah
Childs carried the Cougars in the first half as he scored the first 12 points against the Utes in the Beehive Classic at Vivint Smart Home Arena. He finished with 31 points, 11 rebounds and two assists as he notched his seventh double-double of the season. Childs shot 13-of-16 from the field in BYU’s 74-59 win over the Utes for their second straight win over their rival.
Childs also stunned the arena with a monstrous dunk over two Utah defenders.

BYU will face Portland State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Marriott Center. The game will be broadcast on BYUtv and KSL News Radio.
