SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz blew away the San Antonio Spurs 139-105 in Kyle Korver’s first game back in Salt Lake City. The team marked the 3-point specialist’s return by breaking the franchise record for buckets beyond the arc.

The Jazz set a franchise high in 3-pointers made in a single game with 20, breaking the previous record of 19. The record-breaker came from Georges Niang with 1:33 left in the fourth quarter.

All but two Jazz players got in the action from behind the 3-point line. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 4-6 shooting behind the line, followed by Kyle Korver and Joe Ingles, who each had three.

The only Jazzmen who didn’t make – or shoot – a 3-pointer were centers Rudy Gobert and Ekpe Udoh.

As a team, the Jazz shot 60.7 percent from both beyond the arc, and 60.6 percent from the field as a whole. They also set season highs in points scored with 139, and assists with 38.

“We made some tough shots,” said head coach Quin Snyder. “We did move the ball and got some other ones. Anytime you have a shooting night like that, you appreciate it. Tonight we shot the ball really well. You’re not going to do that all the time. The ball went in tonight for a lot of guys.”

Jazz Run Away With Victory

The Jazz went a perfect 3-for-3 from deep to start the game, and had six 3-pointers by the end of the first quarter. The strong shooting continued into the second quarter as the Jazz built a 63-47 halftime lead.

Utah put the game out of reach in the second half, building a 27-point lead in the third quarter and led 104-78. They added 35 points in the fourth quarter to San Antonio’s 27. Georges Niang’s record setter put the Jazz up 133-100.

By The Numbers

It was a dominant, balanced scoring effort by the Jazz, who had seven players in double figures. Every available player for the Jazz contributed at least one basket in the win. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 20 points with four 3-pointers. Rudy Gobert finished with a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Korver turned in 15 points and went 3-for-4 from deep.

Former University of Utah star Jakob Poeltl led the Spurs with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting.

Korver Returns In A Jazz Uniform

Shortly after receiving a Gatorade bath from a few of his teammates after the game, Korver thanked the home crowd for a warm reception in his return to Utah as a Jazzman.

“It was great,” said Korver. “The fans were amazing. It was a ton of energy.”

Next Up

The Jazz will host the 11-12 Houston Rockets Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Vivint SmartHome Arena. The game will be broadcast on TNT.
