PROVO, Utah – Just when it looked like he was coming on strong, Cougar senior Matt Hadley’s career at BYU has come to an end.

The two-way threat was enjoying a strong end to the 2018 regular season when he suffered what head coach Kalani Sitake called “a fractured leg.”

“Tough guy, walked off on his own,” said Sitake. “We’ll miss him.”

Hadley To Spend Bowl Season With Team

Sitake continued to say that while he won’t be able to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl with his teammates, Hadley will remain close to the program and will “hang out” with the team in Boise.

Strong Finish To Season, Prior To Injury

Hadley had scored five touchdowns in the Cougars’ final three games of the season.

Against UMass, Hadley had 73 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown.

In the Cougars’ win over New Mexico State, Hadley picked up 55 yards on just seven carries while scoring twice.

Against Utah he was responsible for 69 yards gained on 21 carries and found the end zone twice.

Next Man up

While he said that other guys would be cutting it close in terms of being ready for the bowl game, Sitake added that running back Squally Canada would be available for the game against Western Michigan.

Another Season Ending Injury For Hadley

It wasn’t the first time that Hadley’s season, or even his senior season had come to an unceremonious end. Last season, he suffered a broken knee cap and tried to play through it before having season ending surgery. He was granted a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA so he could play another year.

The Cougars will meet the Broncos in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 21nd in Boise. The game will kick off at 2 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN.
