Gay Breaks Pac-12 Championship Record With 53-Yard Field Goal

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Utah kicker Matt Gay tied up the Pac-12 Championship game at 3-all midway through the third quarter with a 53-yard field that just barely sailed over the top of the crossbar.

Gay, who won the Lou Groza Award for the nation’s top kicker last season, had a career long of 55-yards going into the game. For his career, Gay is now 8-of-11 from 50 yards and out. He was arguably the conference’s best kicker as he lead the Pac-12 in field goals made with 23 and field goals per game with 1.93. He has also been perfect in his career in PATs made with a flawless 83-for-83 record.
