PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Utah Jazz suffered their second straight loss and fell to 7-8 on the season in a 113-107 defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers.

“We competed, I feel that’s something,” said head coach Quin Snyder, who after the Jazz’s 50-point loss to Dallas on Wednesday said that the team didn’t compete that night. “We got to be smarter. A lot of mistakes add up and we had some plays where we got to think more.”

After a strong first quarter by Philadelphia after which the 76ers led 38-24, Utah responded by holding Philadelphia to just 16 points in the second. At the halftime break, Philadelphia held a slight 54-52 advantage.

After both teams scored 32 points in the third, it came down to the wire in the final minutes of the fourth.

Jae Crowder tipped in a missed shot by Ricky Rubio to give Utah a 107-105 lead with 1:37 remaining. Unfortunately for the Jazz, the Sixers went on an 8-0 run to finish the game and steal the win.

All five starters turned in double figure scoring for the Jazz. Donovan Mitchell scored a game high 31 points but shot a woeful 13-for-35, including a miserable 1-for-11 from beyond the arc. He also was held without an assist in the loss. Rudy Gobert finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Mitchell wasn’t the only Jazzman who struggled from beyond the arc. As a team, the Jazz shot just 4-for-22 from 3-point land in the loss.

In his first home game as a Sixer, Jimmy Butler was solid, scoring a team high 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting. Joel Embiid chipped in 23 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter to lead Philadelphia to the thrilling win.

The Jazz will have little time to recover from the setback as they travel to face the Boston Celtics Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and NBA TV.
