LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies notched another win on the season and their second in the MGM Resorts Main Event as they knocked off the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 94-59.
Brock Miller led the way with a career-high 26 points, including 6-of-11 from downtown. Sam Merrill added 18 points and John Knight III chipped in 12 points as the trio were the only Aggies to score in double figures.
The Delta Devils had 49 of their 59 points scored by Jordan Evans (29) and Dante Scott (20).
The Aggies jumped out to a big 29 point lead at halftime, 53-24. Merrill led the first half with 13 and Brock Miller added 12. Utah State shot 57 percent from the field and held Mississippi Valley State to just 24 percent on seven made field goals.
Utah State held the advantage from the three point line as well, connecting on six triples on 11 attempts while the Devils hit two three point shots on seven attempts.
The gas pedal stayed down as the Aggies outscored the Delta Devils 41-35 but was just shy of scoring 100 points for the third straight game.
“For the most part, I liked how we took care of business,” Utah State head coach Craig Smith said after the game. “Being able to take care of business the way we did, obviously, we had a few stretches in there that weren’t a thing of beauty, but in general, we played very hard and really were sharing the ball. We came out with a win,” he added.
The Aggies improved to 3-0 on the season and will continue the MGM Resorts Main Event on Friday when they host Utah Valley at 7 p.m. on the Stadium app.
