SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Pac-12 Conference announced that Utah’s Matt Gay has been named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week following his record setting performance in the Utes 32-25 win over Oregon.
Gay made a school-record six field goals, making all of his attempts and added two extra points. He broke the previous record by Joe Phillips in 2009 of five made field goals.
The 20 points that the Orem, Utah native accounted for tied the school record for points in a game by a kicker and is one of two kickers nationally to score 20 points in a game this season.
Gay made field goals from 35, 20, 21, 55, 41 and 24 yards. The 55-yard make just before halftime was his season-long and his sixth career field goal made from 50-plus yards. He leads the Pac-12 in field goals per game with two, which ranks third nationally.
The Utes will face Colorado in Boulder on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
