Skyridge quarterback Jayden Clemons (2) celebrates a touchdown against Jordan in the quarterfinals of the 5A state football playoffs.

LEHI, Utah – After trailing 21-0 early, Skyridge completed the comeback with a 58-34 win over Jordan in the quarterfinals of the 5A state football tournament.

Things didn’t look great for Skyridge after the first quarter against Jordan. Wyatt Jones had just picked off Jayden Clemons and ran it back 62 yards for a score that put Jordan up 21-0.

The Falcons, winners of nine straight games entering Friday, hadn’t trailed by more than 7 in any game this season. It would’ve been easy to be cynical of Skyridge’s situation.

The Falcon’s weren’t phased.

They were able to chip away at the lead before the half thanks to a 38-yard fumble return by Stone Mulitalo and a tough 4-yard touchdown by Ma’a Notoa cut the Beetdigger lead to 27-13.

In the second half Notoa and quarterback Jayden Clemons went to work scoring five combined touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters. After being down 21-0, Skyridge outscored Jordan 58 to 13 to advance to the semifinals at Rice-Eccles stadium next week.

Now being in TV, time doesn’t always allow for us to show you all of the plays just mentioned. In fact, we were only able to show two. Because I don’t want to deny you fine people of the phenomenal football that I witnessed, I give you the top 5 plays from the game you didn’t see on TV.

5. Jayden Clemons Goes 59 Yards

Clemons had four total touchdowns on the night, two through the air and two on the ground. The most impressive? His 59-yard touchdown scamper.

4. Wyatt Jones Pick-6 x 2

Through one half of football, Jones was Jordan’s MVP and the reason they had a lead. If the Falcons hadn’t come back to win, Jayden Clemons would have had nightmares about Jones for the rest of his life.

3. Jake Shaver’s 79-Yard Touchdown Run

Shaver had a pair of touchdowns in the 1st quarter, helping the Beetdiggers to their 21-0 lead. The best of which was Shaver burning the Falcon defense for 79 yards.

2. Dylan Samuel’s Sideline Catch

A great over the shoulder catch, gets the feet in, and somehow the photographer keeps it all in frame after getting hit. (It’s a great catch but that was also for my ego)

1.  Ma’a Natoa’s 4-Yard Touchdown

On paper, it’s not flashy, but Natoa fighting to get to the endzone right before the half, set the tone for the team in the 3rd quarter, helping to complete the rally.
