MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Utah Jazz were haunted by a vintage performance by Derrick Rose in a 128-125 loss on Halloween night.

Rose finished with a career-high 50 points, surpassing the 42-point mark that he hit twice in his MVP year with the Chicago Bulls in the 2010-11 season. He scored six of Minnesota’s final seven points in the final minute of a half to break a 121-all tie and give the Timberwolves the win.

Jazz Make A Game Of It

Rudy Gobert was given two fouls early in the first and was forced to sit on the bench for an extended period of time. In his absence, the Jazz struggled, allowing Minnesota to take a 32-25 lead at the end of the opening period.

The Jazz stormed back, thanks to a 16-point third quarter by Donovan Mitchell to get back in the game in the final period. Unfortunately for Utah, Mitchell was kept out of the game for the final four and a half minutes with what was later called right hamstring tightness. He wore ice packs and was stretching with team trainers for the remainder of the game. In that time with their star sophomore on the bench, the Jazz failed to make a field goal, contributing greatly to the loss.

The action was back and forth in the final minutes, but thanks to Rose’s heroics, and a couple of missed opportunities by the Jazz, the Timberwolves held a three point lead with 13 seconds remaining. The Jazz inbounded the ball and had three attempts at tying the game but were unable to convert, resulting in the 128-125 final.

By The Numbers

Mitchell finished with 26 points to lead the Jazz. Gobert continued his season-long double-double streak with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Karl-Anthony Towns turned in 28 points to help Rose put the Jazz away. All five Minnesota starters finished in double figures in the victory.

Timberwolves All-Star Jimmy Butler sat out the game as he continues to push for a trade away from the team, according to multiple reports.

The loss gave the Jazz their first road loss of the season and ended a four-game road trip.

Next Up

The Jazz will return home for a matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet.
