5A Utah High School Football First Round State Tournament Results

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The first round of the 5A UHSAA football state tournament is in the books. Sixteen teams competed in the first round, only eight teams clinched a berth into the second round.

KSL Sports takes a look at all of the first round action.

The Results For 5A

Region 6 No. 1-seed Olympus Titans 27
Region 7 No. 4-seed Alta Hawks 6

The Titans avoid the upset after holding the shut out until late in the fourth quarter. Olympus quarterback Jackson Frank threw two touchdown passes, both of them to wide receiver Noah Bennee.

Region 7 No. 2-seed Jordan Beetdiggers 56
Region 6 No. 3-seed Lehi Pioneers 28

Jordan jumped out to a 28-0 lead before Lehi attempted their comeback. The Beetdiggers outscored Lehi 21-7 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Running back Jake Shaver had five rushing touchdowns in the win.

Region 8 No. 1-seed Skyridge Falcons 56
Region 5 No. 4-seed Farmington Phoenix 7

Skyridge scored all 56 points in the first three quarters before Farmington scored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter. Falcons quarterback Jayden Clemons led the offense with four touchdown passes.

Region 5 No. 1-seed Roy Royals 40
Region 8 No. 4-seed Maple Mountain Golden Eagles 7

Roy scored all of their points in the first three quarters before Maple Mountain added their lone touchdown at the end of the third. Running back had two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown to help the Royals advance to the second round.

Region 7 No. 3-seed Timpview Thunderbirds 35
Region 6 No. 2-seed Highland Rams 10

Timpview jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Thunderbirds running back Sione Moa ran in two touchdowns in the win.

Region 8 No. 3-seed Springville Red Devils 17
Region 5 No. 2-seed Box Elder Bees 13

Box Elder scored a touchdown in the first quarter, with Springville answering back with 17 unanswered points in the second and third quarter. Red Devils quarterback Payton Murphy threw two touchdown passes, including an 80-yard touchdown to running back Trae Hillstead.

Region 7 No. 1-seed Corner Canyon Chargers 70
Region 6 No. 4-seed Murray Spartans 3

The Chargers scored eight touchdowns in the first half to lead 56-3. Quarterback Cole Hagen accounted for five touchdowns, four through the air and one on the ground.

Region 5 No. 3-seed Viewmont Vikings 17
Region 8 No. 2-seed Provo Bulldogs 14

Provo scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 14-0 at halftime. Viewmont answered back with two scores in the third quarter to tie the game. Vikings kicker Gabe Johnson hit a 28-yard field goal with three seconds left to win the game in Provo.
