INDIANAPOLIS – Donovan Mitchell gave a shout-out to former Utah State guard Sam Merrill in the Starry 3PT Contest on Saturday.
He repped a No. 5 Cleveland Cavaliers jersey with “Money Merrill” instead of a last name.

Sam Merrill is Mitchell’s teammate in Cleveland and has thrived in an increased role this season.
Merrill is shooting 44.2% from deep this season which is good for 10th in the NBA.
Two Cavaliers players, Mitchell and Max Strus, shoot more threes per game than Merrill but he is by far the most efficient.

The lowest score to advance was a 26 so Mitchell’s night was shortlived but he will make up for it as an East All-Star on Sunday night.

Another former Jazzman, Malik Beasley, also got knocked out in the first round with one less point.
Mitchell was drafted by Utah and played 345 games across five seasons with the Jazz. Beasley played 55 games for Utah last year before being traded and ending up in Los Angeles.
Damian Lillard broke multiple ties and went on to win it all for the second straight year.
