SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz announced that they’ve waived Kevin Knox II only two days after acquiring the forward in a trade with the Detroit Pistons.

The Jazz waived Knox on Friday, February 9.

The Kentucky product joined the Jazz as part of a deal that sent Simone Fontecchio from Utah to Detroit on February 7.

Following the trade, the Jazz lost to the Phoenix Suns on the road on February 8, the day of the NBA’s trade deadline. Knox was ruled out for the game with the trade still pending, per the Jazz.

In addition to getting Knox from the Pistons, the Jazz received the draft rights to Italy’s Gabriele Procida and a 2024 second round pick.

After playing college basketball at Kentucky, Knox was the No. 9 overall pick by the New York Knicks in the 2018 NBA Draft.

The forward played the first three and a half seasons of his NBA career in New York. After 13 games with the Knicks in the 2021-22 season, Knox was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. He played 17 games for the Hawks.

During the 2022 offseason, the standout from Tampa Catholic signed with the Pistons. He played 42 games in Detroit before he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2023.

After re-signing with the Blazers in October 2023, Knox was waived by Portland before the start of the regular season. A month later, the foward rejoined the Pistons as a free agent.

In 32 games this season, Knox averaged 7.2 points per game on 46.2 percent shooting.

He owns career averages of 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.3 blocks, and 0.4 steals in 18.0 minutes per game. He’s played in 306 NBA contests, including 77 starts.
