PROVO, Utah – The BYU basketball team upset last year’s national championship runners-up No.17 San Diego State 74-65.
Let’s answer some questions from another Cougar win over the Aztecs. They’re now 31-4 all-time against San Diego State in the Marriott Center.
Who was the MVP for BYU basketball?
Dallin Hall has come off the bench for the first two games of the season as he works himself back from injury.
His scoring in the second half is why BYU won this game, and he’s my choice for the most valuable player.
Dallin Hall’s shot making has been outstanding in the second half.
He’s made some clutch baskets. Keep the ball in his hands. #BYU #BYUHoops

Hall scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half.
The only downside to his performance was four turnovers, but his clutch shotmaking more than made up for those mistakes.
The sophomore point guard made 50 percent of his three-point shots, going 4 for 8 from deep.
BYU will need stellar play from Hall this season if they want to make a run at the NCAA tournament.
What was the most interesting stat from the game?
San Diego State is a long, athletic team.
However, BYU outrebounded them by 10.
Fousseyni Traore led the Cougars with eight rebounds.
The Cougars got great contributions from their guards on the glass as well.
Spencer Johnson chipped in seven rebounds while the other starting guard Trevin Knell added four.
Under-4 timeout: #BYU 59, SDSU 55.
This series always lives up to the hype.#BYUHoops

What was the play of the game?
With 3:37 left in the second half, the Aztecs found themselves on the free-throw line with a chance to cut the BYU lead to 3 points.
Jay Pal missed the front end of a one-and-one situation and Richie Saunders ripped down a contested rebound.
He was fouled, putting the Cougars in the bonus.
Saunders made both free throws, which extended BYU’s lead to six points.
It was a game-swinging sequence that greatly helped the Cougars in their upset win.
When was the game won for BYU basketball?
Dallin Hall found himself with the ball up six points with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
As the shot clock was winding down, Hall used a crossover dribble followed by a stepback move to get behind the three-point line.
He buried the bucket, giving BYU a nine-point lead and they never looked back.
COLD. BLOODED.

Hall is making a name for himself as someone who plays his best basketball when the stakes are higher.
