Weber State Men’s Basketball Defeats Adams State In Exhibition Game

SALT LAKE CITY – The Weber State men’s basketball team started their season on a high note after taking down the Adams State Grizzlies in the Wildcats’ first and only exhibition game.
The Wildcats hosted the Grizzlies at Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah on Thursday, November 2.
Weber State beat Adams State, 90-51.

After the teams started the game with a 7-7 tie on the scoreboard following the first 3:05 of game time, Weber State took control of the contest and never relinquished. The Wildcats closed the opening half of action on a 36-12 run and went into the locker room at halftime with a 24-point lead.

Following the break, the Wildcats continued theirĀ run and outscored the visiting Grizzlies by 15 points over the final 20 minutes of play.
The Wildcats finished the game shooting 52.9 percent overall and 36.0 percent on three-pointers. Weber State also limited Adams State to 33.9 percent shooting, including 19.0 percent from downtown. The Wildcats dominated the paint with 52 points compared to the Grizzlies’ 28 near the basket. Weber State also scored 23 points off of Adams State turnovers.

All 15 Wildcat players scored against the Grizzlies.
Weber State had four players reach double figures in scoring.
Steven Verplancken and Balise Threatt led Weber State with 13 points apiece. Dyson Koehler poured in 11 points while Dillon Jones added 10 points. Jones was the lone Wildcat to post a double-double thanks to his scoring total and 10 rebounds. He also dished out a team-high four assists.
The Grizzlies were led by Isaiah Sampson’s nine points and eight rebounds.
The Wildcats are scheduled to officially begin their 2023-24 regular season against Mesa Benedictine (Arizona) on Tuesday, November 7. The Wildcats will host the Redhawks for a 7 p.m. (MDT) tip-off on ESPN+.
