SALT LAKE CITY – Utah football comes in ranked at No. 18 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2023 football season.
This is the eighth time the Utes have been represented in the rankings since their inception in 2014. Utah has only missed being ranked in one season back in 2017 when they finished the year 7-6.
Utah currently sits at No. 18 in the AP Top 25 after a tough loss at home over the weekend to Oregon.

Where Does Utah Rank In The First CFP Of 2023?
In the first playoff rankings of the 2023 College football season, the Utah Utes came in at No. 18.
After seemingly finding an offensive identity the past few weeks, the Utes struggled to move the ball at home against Oregon. Perhaps more troubling though, Utah really struggled to stop or slow down the Ducks offense leading to a 35-6 loss at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
It’s no secret the Utes are very beat up and have had to be creative to reach their now 6-2 record for the 2023 season. It’s an impressive feat, but it’s also clear there are limits to how good this team can be in 2023 and that is ok.
A No. 18 ranking for the Utes to start off in the College Football Playoff ranking system is a fair and great place for them to be.
