PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball hasn’t tipped off yet for the 2023-24 season, but they are bringing together schedule plans for the following year.
It was officially announced on Tuesday that BYU would be part of the Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego. The Invitational features programs from four different power conferences.
BYU basketball will play in the 2024 Rady Children’s Invitational
BYU will be joined by Arkansas (SEC), Notre Dame (ACC), and Purdue Big Ten).
The 2024 Rady Children’s Invitational will be played at LionTree Arena on the campus of UC San Diego, and the dates are November 28-29, 2024.
Pairings for the invitational were not announced. The 2023 Rady Children’s Invitational will be televised on FS1 and FOX. So, it could provide a network television opportunity for BYU hoops on the holiday weekend 2024.
History against Arkansas, Notre Dame, Purdue
The last time BYU played one of the other three programs in the field was in 2014 against Purdue in the Maui Invitational. BYU has played Purdue twice all-time, splitting the games 1-1. The first meeting was in 1978 at the Marriott Center, a game BYU won.
BYU has the most meetings with Notre Dame. The Cougars and Irish have squared off eight times, with the most recent meeting in 2012 at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Brooklyn.
One of the greatest wins in BYU basketball history was against the Irish. The 1981 NCAA Tournament where BYU legend Danny Ainge drove coast-to-coast with a game-winning finger roll to send BYU to the Elite Eight.
BYU has only squared off against Arkansas once in its history. That was back in 1947 in the Los Angeles Invitational. BYU won 65-58.
