SALT LAKE CITY – College football completed its fifth week of the 2023 season, which featured multiple highlight reel plays by our local teams.

BYU Cougars

WR Chase Roberts Flies For 59-Yard Touchdown Against Cincinnati

“BYU locked up its first-ever Big 12 Conference win by defeating Cincinnati in front of the biggest crowd at LaVell Edwards Stadium since 2009. The historic gathering of Cougar fans was given some highlight-worthy plays, but one that stands above the rest is Kedon Slovis connecting with Chase Roberts for a 59-yard touchdown. Slovis’ pass appeared to be intended for Keanu Hill, but landed in the hands of Roberts, who took off in stride for the TD. The score extended BYU’s lead to 28-13 late in the third quarter.” – BYU insider Mitch Harper

Thomas Yassmin Puts Utah On Board Against Oregon State In Fourth

“The Utes were close to suffering their first shutout since UNLV in 2007 (ironically also played after beating UCLA the previous week) but Utah tight end Thomas Yassmin saved the day. Yassmin hauled in a pass for 41 yards and a score from quarterback Nate Johnson with just over five minutes left to play in the fourth quarter to get the Utes on the board. Blocked Extra Point Allows Utah State To Survive After Second-Half Comeback

“Utah State redshirt sophomore safety Ike Larsen sealed an Aggie victory when his last-minute extra point block gave USU a 34-33 road win. After UConn drove 85 yards on nine plays for a touchdown, it looked like the Huskies and Aggies were ticketed for overtime. Not so fast said Larsen as he crashed through the line for his first career extra point block. It was the fifth blocked kick of Larsen’s young career and earned him Mountain West special teams Player of the Week recognition.” – USU insider Brian Preece
