Source: Real Salt Lake Trades Meram To Charlotte For Shinyashiki

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake traded veteran forward Justin Meram to Charlotte FC for fellow forward Andre Shinyashiki, a Major League Soccer source confirmed to KSLSports.com.
The Athletic’s Tom Bogert was first to report the trade on Monday, April 23.
“Real Salt Lake are finalizing a deal to acquire forward Andre Shinyahiki from Charlotte FC in exchange for winger Justin Meram, sources tell The Athletic,” Bogert tweeted.
Meram, 34, did not play in RSL’s 3-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on April 22.

Meram and Real Salt Lake hosted and defeated Charlotte FC, 3-1, on April 8.
The forward has been a member of Real Salt Lake since the 2020 season. This season, Meram recorded one assist, six shots, and three shots on target in six appearances with RSL, including two starts. Prior to his time in Utah, Meram played nine seasons with the Columbus Crew. He’s also played for Orlando City SC and Atlanta United.
In his MLS career, Meram has posted 51 goals, 52 assists, 490 shots, and 182 shots on goal. The Michigan native has played in 334 MLS matches and has started 230 of those contests.
Meram has also played for Iraq’s national team since 2014. During 36 appearances with Iraq, Meram has scored four goals.

Shinyashiki, 25, is a native of São Paulo, Brazil.
Before his professional career, the forward played college soccer with the Denver Pioneers from 2015-18. During 83 collegiate matches, Shinyashiki scored 51 goals.
In 2017, Shinyashiki joined the Colorado Rapids’ U-23 roster. In 26 matches, the forward recorded 18 goals. From 2019-22, Shinyashiki played for Colorado’s MLS club. He scored 16 goals in 86 matches with the Rapids. Shinyashiki joined Charlotte FC in 2022. In 26 matches with Charlotte, Shinyashiki scored six goals.
This season, the forward had recorded three shots and one shot on target in five appearances, including two starts.
RSL owns a 3-0-5 record this season and sits in ninth place in the Western Conference standings with nine points.
Real Salt Lake’s next match is against Las Vegas Lights FC in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, April 26. The game will begin at 8 p.m. (MDT). It will be broadcast on KSL Sports Zone.
