PROVO, Utah – Southern Utah cornerback Dylan Flowers will join the BYU football program. Flowers announced his pledge to BYU on Monday with a social media post that read, “God’s Plan #Committed.”

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback hails from Playa Del Ray, California. He was recruited by BYU’s Jernaro Gilford, while Flowers was a prep standout at St. Bernard High School. In high school, Flowers earned scholarship offers from BYU and Tennessee. He was also receiving interest from Arizona State, Cal, Virginia Tech, and others.

Then the COVID-19 pandemic took away Flowers’ senior year and the opportunity for coaches to travel on the recruiting trail.

He signed with Southern Utah, where he was with the T-Birds program for the past two years. Flowers played in eight games during his freshman season, recording six tackles. Then in 2022, Flowers appeared in only two games, which ended up counting as a redshirt season.

Flowers comes to BYU with three years of eligibility remaining.

He is cousins with BYU wide receiver Kody Epps. Epps expressed his excitement on social with a lot of emojis.

BYU has overhauled its defensive coaching staff, led by defensive coordinator Jay Hill. Jernaro Gilford remains the cornerback coach, but there will be a lot of competition to solidify that other starting spot alongside Weber State transfer Eddie Heckard.

Flowers is the third cornerback transfer BYU has added this off-season. The other is Cerritos College DB Jayden Dunlap. Flowers is the 13th transfer from a Division I program (FBS or FCS) during the 2023 cycle.
