BYU played an amazing game in order to make it close with the Bulldogs. The Cougars shot over 50% from three and forced 16 turnovers.
What killed BYU was the work that Gonzaga put in on the glass. The Bulldogs finished the game with 15 more rebounds than the Cougars. This included 10 more offensive rebounds.
The Thursday night game was BYU’s first sold out home game of the season.
Gonzaga star and All-American Drew Timme sees BYU as a rival. Timme said he wants the matchup to continue to take place after BYU’s move to the Big 12.
“I think it’s a special rivalry and one that should continue even past (BYU) leaving the conference. I think it’s something where we should do home-and-homes forever. It’s kind of like –obviously not to the level– Texas and (Texas) A&M,” Timme, a Texas native, said at WCC Media Day in October. “I feel like it’s just developed into such a great rivalry.”
