Hometown Hero Of The Week: Utah Utes DE Gabe Reid Takes Honor After Pac-12 Title Game Showing

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Timpview star and current Utah Utes defensive end Gabe Reid was named Hometown Hero of the Week after his strong performance in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
Each week, KSL Sports Live highlights a former Utah high school athlete that is excelling at the college level and Utes DE Gabe Reid was selected this week.
The graduate transfer had a tremendous performance in Utah’s 47-24 win over USC at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in the Pac-12 Championship Game. He finished with five tackles, two sacks, and three tackles for loss.
Gabe Reid’s College Career
Reid started his college career at Stanford, where he played 42 games with 24 starts. He racked up 167 total tackles at Stanford from 2018-21. After the 2021 season, Reid decided to transfer to Utah to play with his brother Karene. This season, Reid has played in 12 games with four starts.
Reid leads the Utah defensive line with 39 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks. He also leads the team in sacks and is second in tackles for loss.
Gabe Reid’s Time At Timpview
While at Timpview High School, Reid recorded 248 tackles and 40.5 sacks. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and was the No. 6 prospect in the state of Utah. Reid was a two-time all-state and three-time all-region selection. In 2014, Reid was named the Region 8 Defensive MVP, the All-Scout Mountain/Island first-team, and MaxPreps All-America second-team.
During his senior season, Reid had 100 tackles and 17 sacks. He helped Timpview win three state championships. His coach at Timpview was Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham’s brother Cary.
The Reid family is filled with football players with his uncle Gabe playing at BYU before joining the New York Jets and Chicago Bears in the NFL. His uncle Jared played at Utah State, uncle Gordon played at Southern Utah, and uncle Adney played at BYU.
