SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau is back on the PGA Tour circuit and will compete in a second consecutive event this week at the Houston Open.
He will be joined by fellow Utahn Zac Blair in the field.
Tough Start For Tony Finau
Finau’s 2022/23 PGA Tour season began last week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic where he failed to make the cut following the opening two rounds. He has yet to make a cut in the new PGA Tour season.
However, Finau has not played much golf since teeing it up in Mexico a week ago. Prior to the Mayakoba Golf Classic, Finau spent significant time with his family and friends and not on the golf course. Before the Mayakoba Golf Classic, he admitted that he picked up a golf club for the first time just 12 days before the event began.
With a week under his belt, the Houston Open will hopefully provide better scoring opportunities for Finau. In Mayakoba, Finau struggled with his ball striking off the tee and with his irons. Remarkably, during the second round of the event, Finau managed to hit just 50% of fairways in regulation while also managing just 61% of greens in regulation.
Finau struggled mightily in all facets of the game.
Tee Times & Pairings
Finau will play alongside Joel Dahmen and Mackenzie Hughes throughout the opening two rounds of the Houston Open. The trio will tee off the 10th tee on Thursday at 10:09 a.m. before playing off the 1st tee on Friday at 5:24 a.m.
Blair will play alongside Michael Kim and Wyndham Clark and will begin on Thursday at 9:25 a.m. and at 4:40 a.m. on Friday.

Last year, Finau missed the cut at the Houston Open. However, the year prior he concluded in a share of 24th. This year will mark just his third start at the event.
Other big-name golfers in the field include Hideki Matsuyama, Scottie Scheffler, Jason Day, Si Woo Kim, and Harris English.
