SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Tech Trailblazers failed to keep pace and experience a home loss to the Abilene Christian Wildcats.

The Blazers hosted the Wildcats at Greater Zion Stadium on Saturday, October 1.

Utah Tech suffered a 26-10 loss to Abilene Christian.

The Trailblazers opened the contest’s scoring with a field goal midway through the opening quarter. Connor Brooksby’s kick from 21 yards out gave Utah Tech an early 3-0 lead.

Midway through the second quarter, the Wildcats found the scoreboard for the first time thanks to a 37-yard field goal that tied the game.

With 5:53 left in the first half, Quali Conley sprinted 15 yards into the end zone for the first touchdown on the night. Conley’s burst gave Utah Tech a 10-3 lead.

Unfortunately for the Blazers, it would be the end of Utah Tech’s scoring.

Abilene Christian kicked a 30-yard field goal with 38 seconds left in the half to cut Utah Tech’s lead to 10-6 at halftime. However, in the third quarter, Jermiah Dobbins ran for the first of his three second half touchdowns to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game.

Dobbins ran in another pair of scores in the final quarter to lift Abilene Christian to a 16-point victory. The Trailblazers ended up wiht only 284 yards and committed two turnovers. The Wildcats had 440 yards of total offense and only one giveaway.

Utah Tech quarterback Victor Gabalis finished the game 12/34 passing for 112 yards and an interception. Conley led the Blazers with 20 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown.

With the loss, the Trailblazers fell to a 1-4 record this season. The program will have a couple weeks off before returning to action in the middle of October.

Utah Tech’s next contest is on the road against the Northern Iowa Panthers on Saturday, October 15 at 3 p.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
