SALT LAKE CITY- The Utes put together a lopsided win, 73-7, against Southern Utah University after coming up just short of a win the week before in Gainesville. While the beatdown was impressive and Utah looked virtually flawless on both sides of the ball, head coach Kyle Whittingham cautioned jumping to the conclusion that all is fixed with his team.
Whittingham said several times during the post-game press conference that he and his coaching staff will be combing the tape thoroughly the rest of the weekend to make sure the Utes are improving the way they need them to.

“We’ve got to watch the tape,” Whittingham said when asked about Utah’s convincing win. “It’s more of the details we are looking for- the fundamentals and techniques that we’ve been teaching are being employed out there. That they are doing things the way we need them done.”
Finding Improvement Where It Isn’t Obvious
Whittingham says he doesn’t believe there are any coaching challenges that come from playing an FCS team and the tune-ups that need to come from it. However, he did state the key will be making sure everyone understands the score doesn’t mean there aren’t things to continue improving.
“I don’t know if there is a challenge other than making sure your players understand we have a lot to fix and we don’t have all of the answers,” Whittingham said. “We have to get better if we want to get where we ultimately want to end up. We’ve got to keep improving and don’t be misled by the lopsidedness of the game because we still have things to fix. Southern Utah played hard. They are well-coached and play hard. It was just a talent difference. That’s the bottom line.”
