SALT LAKE CITY- Utah football is 22 days away from their big season opener at the Swamp and commemorated the milestone with a tweet in remembrance of Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe. Both Jordan and Lowe wore the number 22 before their tragic deaths just nine months apart last season.
22% better every day.

22 Forever
Though it’s been nearly a year since both Jordan (over a year) and Lowe (just short of a year) passed away, they are still very much a part of what Utah football does on and off the field. The number 22 has become a mantra for the Utes and a constant reminder live life fully and freely.
A great reminder 22 days out from the ‘22 season opener what really matters. Be good to each other ❤️#22Forever #LLTJAL pic.twitter.com/KEH9y51T13

Last season the team adopted the idea of being “22% better everyday” from the eulogy cornerback coach Sharrieff Shah gave at Lowe’s funeral. The saying is still present in the building with the Utes Equipment staff recently applying “22%” bumpers to the fronts of Utah’s helmets for fall camp. At some point during the 2022 season the team will also be honoring Jordan and Lowe with their annual hand painted helmets set to feature portraits of the two players.
A Really Big Year
The Utes are poised for what many believe could be a big year in the program’s history and it only seems fitting that opportunity would come in the ’22 season. Utah has already cracked the top 10 in the USA Today Coaches Poll with a strong possibility they will be ranked as high if not higher in the upcoming AP Poll to be released on Monday.

Of course rankings are only as good as the product and effort you roll out on the field every week, and the Utes seem very cognizant of that fact as the countdown to college football rolls on. Utah has a big opportunity on September 3rd to make a splashy debut to their ’22 campaign, flying down to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators. If the Utes are able to make a strong showing in the heart of SEC country, the sky becomes the limit for a team still in the process of healing and remembering their fallen teammates.
