SALT LAKE CITY- There aren’t a lot of questions for the Utes this fall camp, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t a few things Kyle Whittingham would like sorted out during Saturday’s scrimmage. No fans or media will be permitted during Utah’s first scrimmage of fall camp with solid answers likely not coming till Monday’s media availability.

Whittingham did give some clues this past Monday as to what he and his staff will be evaluating on Saturday as the Utes march ever closer to their season opener in Gainesville.
Saturday’s Scrimmage
In what feels like the first time ever, Utah will not be having a quarterback battle for the starting spot. With Cam Rising locked in, there are other areas Utah’s coaches will be focusing in on during Saturday’s scrimmage. The primary targets Whittingham mentioned Monday include the backup quarterback, the starting five lineup for offensive line, and what exactly the defensive back depth will look like with everyone healthy.

“As far as the starters, getting the five offensive linemen solidified and working together which we are very close to doing,” Whittingham said during Monday’s media availability. “Backup quarterback like we just talked about is a focal point. The secondary depth- making sure we have the secondary sorted out.”
Whittingham also mentioned later trying to sort out the wide receiver room and while not ever mentioned, it seems likely the Utes will also be taking inventory of the linebacker depth to make some decisions there as well.
“Coming along,” Whittingham said of the receivers. “We’ve got four or five proven guys who have been here for a while and four or five guys who are brand new. That is probably another area of emphasis is trying to get those young guys sorted out. See who is going to be among those seven or eight that travel with us.”
