Wright was initially selected by the Toronto Raptors with the 20th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
After three seasons with the Raptors, Wright bounced around the NBA playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, and Atlanta Hawks since 2019.
However, Wright showed his value over the last two seasons averaging 4.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists for the Hawks, and 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 2020-21.
Wright has also improved his shooting over the last two years knocking down an impressive 37 percent of his three-point shots while providing consistent defense on the perimeter.
The former Ute guard will provide support for Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal who resigned with the team on a five-year, $251 super-max deal shortly after free agency opened.

Wright will also join his former Kuzma in Washington when the two take the floor next season.
Kuzma was traded to the Wizards in the summer of 2021 after winning a title with the Los Angeles Lakers in the Orlando bubble.
Wright and Kuzma played one season together at Utah where the Utes made a run to the Sweet-16 alongside current San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl.
In two seasons at Utah Wright averaged 15 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds and was named a second-team All-American, and was awarded the 2015 Bob Cousy Award which is given to the nation’s top point guard.
At the completion of his contract with the Wizards, Wright will have earned nearly $50 million in the NBA.
