BYU Football Linebacker Josh Wilson Survives Car Accident On Freeway
SALT LAKE CITY – BYU football sophomore Josh Wilson had a close call this past weekend. A backup linebacker with the Cougars, Wilson, the younger brother to New York Jets QB Zach Wilson, was involved in a car accident driving on the freeway.
Wilson’s mother, Lisa Wilson, described the accident involving her son.
“This weekend, I had a really scary scare. Josh fell asleep. He was tired and had been used to going to bed at nine. He decided to go to a birthday party and just got drowsy and fell asleep at the wheel. Mother’s worst nightmare,” said Lisa Wilson on her Instagram stories, captured on the image service Imgur.

The Deseret News reports that Wilson was not issued a citation, no injuries from the accident, and no drugs or alcohol were detected. KSL Sports has requested the accident report from the Utah Highway Patrol along with dash cam footage.
Earlier this week, Wilson shared a post on his personal Instagram with the caption, “Hundred reasons just to stick around.” The post included a collection of photos of Wilson with his family members, including older brother Zach, and younger brother Micah, a newcomer in the BYU program this fall.
“Thank God he’s OK and God decided that the world needed him a little bit longer and I needed him a little bit longer,” said Lisa Wilson on Instagram stories. “He’s fine. But you know, going down a freeway 80 miles an hour and hitting a concrete wall is not a good thing.”
Wilson enters his third season with the BYU football program. The former Corner Canyon High star is currently the third-string WILL linebacker on BYU’s offseason depth chart for the 2022 season behind Ben Bywater and Jackson Kaufusi.
Last season, Wilson appeared in eight games in his second full year at BYU.
