The two schools have already canceled a set of games in the series due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were scheduled to square off in 2020 but were forced to cancel the game since the Pac-12 played five games all in-conference that season. The game in 2029 was canceled in conjunction with the 2020 matchup.
All-time, BYU and Stanford have played each other in football twice. The first time was in 2003 when the Cardinal picked up an 18-14 win at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo. They met again in Palo Alto in 2004 with Stanford beating the Cougars 37-10.
BYU will face two Pac-12 schools in their final season as an independent, traveling to Oregon on Saturday, September 17 and at Stanford on Saturday, November 26. Last season, Kalani Sitake’s team faced five Pac-12 schools and went 5-0. They beat Arizona in the season opener 24-16 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, followed by a 26-17 win over Utah at home, snapping a nine-game losing streak to the Utes.
Then they knocked off Arizona State 27-17 in Provo, before they defeated Washington State 21-19 in Pullman. Their last Pac-12 game of the 2021 season was a 35-31 road win over USC.
Stanford plays nine conference games each season, last year they faced Kansas State, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame in their non-conference schedule. They lost to Kansas State and Notre Dame but defeated Vanderbilt. The Cardinal finished the 2021 season with a 3-9 record. This season, they will host Colgate and BYU and travel to Notre Dame for their three non-conference games.
