SALT LAKE CITY – Former Bingham High standout and current NFL tight end Dalton Schultz showed up for the Dallas Cowboys’ mandatory minicamp amid contract talks with the organization, according to NFL Network and ESPN.

After missing part of Dallas’ voluntary OTAs earlier in the month, Schultz reportedly showed up for minicamp on Tuesday, June 14.

“#Cowboys franchise-tagged TE Dalton Schultz will report to minicamp today, per source,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero posted on Twitter. “No deal imminent, but contract talks have picked up in recent days. Schultz already signed his tender, locking in a $10.931 million salary for 2022 if no deal by July 15.”

If Schultz were to have skipped the mandatory minicamp, he would have been subject to fines worth nearly $100,000.

Earlier in the month, Schultz missed the part of the Cowboys’ voluntary OTAs as he was “frustrated” amid contract extension talks with the franchise.

“Frustrated by the state of contract talks, #Cowboys franchise-tagged TE Dalton Schultz informed the team he won’t attend the rest of voluntary OTAs, per sources,” Pelissero tweeted on June 6. “Schultz already signed his franchise tender, locking in a $10.931 million salary for 2022 if no deal by July 15.”

The Cowboys placed their franchise tag on Schultz on March 8.

If Dallas and Schultz can’t agree to a new deal before July 15, the former Miners star will play the 2022 season under the franchise tag that he previously signed.

By playing under the franchise tag in 2022, the Bingham High alum would earn around $11 million.

Last season, the Cowboys had a 12-5 regular season record and earned a playoff berth. Dallas suffered a 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round of the postseason.

Dallas opens its 2022 campaign at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 11.

About Dalton Schultz

Following his high school career at Bingham, Schultz played for the Stanford Cardinal.

After his time at Stanford, the Cowboys selected Schultz during the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Schultz saw little playing time during his first two seasons in the league. In 2020, he caught the first touchdown of his NFL career and finished the year with four scores.

Last season, Schultz had a breakout year for Dallas. He helped the Cowboys reach the playoffs and ended the year with 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns.
