SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake has announced that Liga MX giants Chivas and Santos Laguna will play in an exhibition fixture on June 15 at Rio Tinto Stadium.

The event will mark the second fixture between Liga MX sides at Rio Tinto Stadium. The first occurred a year ago when Club América beat Santos Laguna 1-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium on July 4 in front of a sold-out Rio Tinto Stadium. The spectacle saw fans of both Santos Laguna and Club América travel from afar to witness a historic event.

“Welcoming Santos Laguna and Chivas – two premier clubs in Liga MX – to Rio Tinto Stadium is such an incredible opportunity for the region,” Real Salt Lake President John Kimball said in a press conference at the Utah State Capitol on Monday. “It’s a testament to the fans in Utah that Liga MX would select Utah as a destination for events like this that include clubs of such high esteem in North America. We look forward to their arrival, the arrival of their passionate fans, and the excitement for soccer that it will bring to Salt Lake City,” he added.
