Report: Utah WR/S Ben Renfro Enters Transfer Portal

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Utes wide receiver/safety Ben Renfro has reportedly entered the transfer portal after two seasons with the football program.
Steve Bartle of UteZone first reported the news of Ben Renfro going into the transfer portal and leaving Utah. KSL Sports’ Michelle Bodkin has confirmed the report.

Renfro signed with Utah in 2020 from Magnolia, Texas. He was a three-star recruit that was named 8-5A Utility Player of the Year in 2019 and a two-time first-team all-district selection. Renfro played in one game on special teams against Washington State in 2020. During the 2021 season, he appeared in 10 games, primarily on special teams.
This doesn’t come as a surprise to see Utah players entering the transfer portal. Head coach Kyle Whittingham expected members of his roster to explore other options if they didn’t get enough reps in spring ball.
Earlier this week, walk-on defensive back Stone Azarcon entered the transfer portal following five seasons with the Utes. He walked on to the team in 2017 and used his redshirt. Azarcon didn’t see any action in 2018 before playing in nine games on special teams in 2019. The Denver, Colorado native appeared in five games on special teams in 2020 and did not see any action this past season.
