Utah Basketball Director Of Scouting Brandon Ubel Joins South Dakota Coaching Staff

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah basketball director of scouting Brandon Ubel has joined Eric Peterson’s coaching staff at the University of South Dakota.
Brandon Ubel spent this past season with Utah basketball and will now get his first shot as an assistant coach with South Dakota.
Peterson was hired as the head men’s basketball coach at South Dakota on March 15. As he is putting together his staff, he decided to pick up a member of the Utah basketball staff.

“Brandon is a tremendous addition to our staff,” said Peterson. “He has experience as a high-level player in college and overseas. I’ve worked closely with him over the last three years at Utah State and Utah and there is no doubt in my mind he’s the perfect fit for South Dakota.”
Ubel connected with Utah head coach Craig Smith when he was an assistant coach at Nebraska, where Ubel was a player. After a five-year stint overseas, Ubel reunited with Smith and was hired on at Utah State. Ubel followed Smith and Peterson to Utah for the 2021-22 season.
“I am so excited to have a chance to be a part of the University of South Dakota basketball program,” said Ubel. “Coach Peterson has been an unbelievable mentor to me over our past three years working together and I am honored to be a part of his staff. I am looking forward to getting to work with the team and everyone around the university and be a part of the Coyote family!”
Smith has not hired Peterson’s replacement and now will have to fill his director of scouting vacancy left by Ubel.
