SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s Tony Finau has missed the cut at The Players Championship for a second consecutive year following opening two-round scores of four and three over par, respectively.
In the six Players Championships that Finau has participated in dating back to 2015, he has missed the cut on four occasions.
Finau was one of the first golfers to tee it up on Thursday and was fortunate to get through his opening round before the weather hit. He was in the clubhouse when the horn blew signifying inclement weather. From there, the weather persisted and halted play sporadically throughout Thursday and Friday.
It wasn’t until Sunday afternoon that Finau concluded his second round. The second round for Finau included five bogeys, four birdies, and a double bogey in one of the more inconsistent rounds of Finau’s season to date.

Prior to The Players, Finau took multiple tournaments off in an effort to find form on the practice range. Thus far, Finau has not found the expected form coming off last year’s Northern Trust victory. Of the nine events played in 2021/22, Finau has missed the cut on four occasions and managed just 1 top 25 finish when he concluded the Hero World Challenge in a tie for 7th.
Following The Players, Finau will not be in the field for next week’s Valspar Championship. It is unknown when Finau will next play a competitive event, however, speculation would suggest that Finau may tee it up at the Valero Texas Open, the tournament prior to The Masters.
