SALT LAKE CITY – The unofficial start to the major golf season is here as the PGA Tour welcomes The Players Championship to the schedule this upcoming week.
Utah’s Tony Finau will look to redeem himself following a missed cut at The Players a year ago. TPC Sawgrass has been a venue with which Finau has struggled over the course of his career. It is a golf course that requires precision off the tee and the ability to find greens in regulation.

This season, Finau has battled to find the fairway off the tee but has done a nice job of recovering from poor tee shots and is finding 71.15 percent of greens in regulation.
Finau has thrived on golf courses that allow him to unleash his driver. Sadly, TPC Sawgrass is not that kind of golf course. The Pete Dye layout forces players to pinpoint their golf shots and does not act kindly to those that try to overpower the golf course. For success at TPC Sawgrass, Finau must accept that fairway finding and pin seeking is the recipe for success this week.
Pairings & Tee Times
Finau will play the opening two rounds of the tournament alongside Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson. On Thursday, they will tee off the 1st tee at 5:18 a.m. and at 10:23 a.m. on Friday off the 10th tee.

Important Week
It is a pivotal week for Finau as he plays competitive golf for the first time since the 20th of February when he ended the Genesis Invitational in a tie for 33rd. His 2021/22 PGA Tour season has not been as fruitful as he would have hoped. Finau is yet to find adequate form, especially considering his late win a year ago and a brilliant Ryder Cup campaign.
Given that he has taken two weeks off to practice ahead of The Players, and that The Masters is just a month away, The Players signifies the unofficial start to the Major golfing season.
A big week for Finau could result in a change of form whereas another disappointing outing may be detrimental to his confidence with big tournaments looming.

The Players Championship will be broadcast via The Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. while on the weekend it will be broadcast via NBC from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
