PROVO, Utah – BYU football hasn’t put the finishing touches quite yet on the “Royal Crew” recruiting class of 2022.
This weekend, the Cougars will host a junior college defensive back in three-star prospect Roman Rashada from Diablo Valley College. Rashada announced his intentions to take a visit to Provo on social media.

BYU has made defensive backs a top priority since the early signing period concluded in December. Last month, BYU signed four high school defensive backs to join a room that needs more depth as they ramp up for life in the Big 12 Conference beginning in 2023.
In January, Rashada received an offer from BYU football coaches Ilaisa Tuiaki and Jernaro Gilford. Along with BYU, Washington from the Pac-12 Conference and Colorado State are other programs that have offered the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect.
Rashada played in six games last season at Diablo Valley College, recording 12 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Whichever school Rashada ends up signing with, he will be eligible to join this fall with three years to play two.

Rashada’s ability to play any position in the secondary coincides with how BYU head coach Kalani Sitake wants his defensive backs. “Our safeties will play cornerback, and our cornerbacks will play safety,” the seventh-year BYU coach said after the first spring practice of 2022 on February 28.
A native of Sacramento, California, Rashada graduated from Inderkum High School in 2019.
Rashada has a younger brother in Jaden Rashada, a five-star quarterback prospect in the 2023 high school recruiting cycle.
The signing period for potential FBS student-athletes in the class of 2022 concludes on April 1, 2022.
