Utes Fall To Sun Devils In Game Of Runs
The first four minutes of the second half was much like the first half, which was close. Then Utah went over three minutes without a field goal and was in danger of the game getting out of hand with Arizona State taking a 47-38 lead with 13:24 remaining in the game.
Arizona State took advantage of the cold shooting from Utah and turned it into an 11-1 run. Utah went over four minutes without scoring a point.
Right after stopping that run, Utah went on a 7-0 run and ASU was scoreless for nearly three minutes. It was becoming a game of runs at that point with ASU going on a 6-0 run and taking a 58-45 lead with 7:07 left in the game.
Utah went on an 11-1 run from that point and was within three points, 59-56 with two minutes to go. Branden Carlson drilled a big three-pointer to tie the game with 1:04 to play.
ASU took the lead with two free throws before Branden Carlson found Marco Anthony for the two-handed dunk. Arizona State dribbled out most of the clock when Marreon Jackson made a layup with six seconds left. Rollie Worster’s sideline jumper rimmed out and the Sun Devils picked up the win.
Utah dropped their record to 11-18 overall and 4-15 in Pac-12 play. They will finish their regular season slate on Saturday, March 5 when they host Colorado at 7:30 p.m. MT on ESPNU.
