Birk Irving, Alex Ferreira Qualify For Men’s Freestyle Skiing Halfpipe Final

SALT LAKE CITY – Birk Irving and Alex Ferreira both qualified for the Men’s Freestyle Skiing Halfpipe final at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
The top 12 scores qualified for the final, including Birk Irving and Alex Ferreira. Irving finished in third in the qualifying round, while Ferreira ended the round in seventh place.
After the first run, both Ferreira and Irving were in the top three in the standings. Ferreira was in second with an 84.25, while Irving was in third with an 83.25. Brendan Mackay from Canada was the leader with a score of 87.25.
Each competitor had two runs, keeping the best score of the two in the standings to determine the qualifiers for the final. Ferreira’s second run wasn’t as good as the first, posting a 69.50. So, he kept the score from the first run.
Irving posted an improved score on his second run with an 89.75.
Ferreira is from Aspen, Colorado and attended Westminster College. This is his second Winter Olympic Games after previously competing in 2018 in PyeongChang.
Irving is from Denver, Colorado and currently resides in Winter Park, Colorado. He attended the University of Utah. This is his first Winter Olympic Games.
